Meherun Nesa

Born and brought up in a rural town of Bangladesh, Meherun Nesa did her Bachelor’s Degree) and Master’s in English from Rajshahi University. During her tertiary education, she familiarised herself with the masterminds of the literary world, specially with British and American literary giants. In 1998 she joined the Bangladesh Open University as a lecturer where she received a number of trainings both home and abroad on distance mode of delivering lectures using technology. While working on distance mode of teaching-learning, she gradually felt that technology can assist and enhance education. By then the whole world had shifted towards techno-enhanced teaching and learning. Proper use of technology can create a flexible and effective learning environment, she felt. In 2009 she enrolled in another Master’s programme, Masters in Instructional Design and Technology (MIDT) at Open University of Malaysia. This programme was a turning point in her life. She understood that lecture-based model of teaching can address learning issues less effectively than the participatory and interactive sessions can. In Bangladeshi learning contexts, an interactive learning platform is virtually absent. The idea that a blending of the constructivist theories with suitable technology can scaffold the whole teaching-learning process ignited her thought, and she took up a research project at MIDT titled, “The Use of Wiki at the Undergraduate level to Support Reflection and Deep thinking for the Teaching of English in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, the research was a breakthrough. Though this line of thought she has invited a good number of followers, who are working on improving the learning scenario in Bangladesh. Meherun Nesa has published research articles in journals from Canada, Australia, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Currently, she has been working as a faculty in the department of English at Jagannath University, Dhaka & one of the organisers of Dhaka Translation Fest.
